Powered by WETU

Our Dedication to a more Sustainable Future

No more Animal Interactions

In order to address issues related to canned hunting practices in South Africa, we have eliminated animal interactions from our tours. We are committed to preserving the natural state of wildlife.

Supporting the Sustainable warriors of Tomorrow

Fairfield Tours is honoured to support the Saasveld Forestry College at Nelson Mandela University. The George Campus of NMU strives to be a leading knowledge hub for the green economy and advocates for a sustainable future.

Travelife

Fairfield is committed to sustainability and to this end we have received Travelife Certification in 2020 and 2022. We are also in the process of getting re-certified.

Sustainable practices implemented in the workplace

  • Our Company has implemented a Hybrid policy where most staff will only come into the office twice a week, reducing carbon emissions, water and electricity consumption as well as waste
  • Our Maintenance Supervisor strictly monitors our electricity and water meters.
  • Staff are encouraged to use paper sparingly, and to recycle.
  • Our Contracts Manager has been appointed to monitor our supplier sustainability efforts on an annual basis.

Plans for the Future

  • Train all staff in Travelife and sustainable policy and practices
  • Update the supplier sustainability database yearly
  • Implement bio-degradable cleaning materials at the office
  • Monitor excessive business travel
  • Ensure that no excessive negative impact activities are offered
  • Communicate sustainability info to agents and clients
  • Installation of water tanks and solar

Say no to forbidden souvenirs

As the saying goes “take only memories, leave only footprints”. Spending locally supports communities. However, avoid souvenirs made from endangered species. Awareness is key, and laws banning such products are needed.

WWF's campaign 'Watch, watch, don’t buy' informs travellers about illegal items like ivory, fur, and coral, which are prohibited by CITES.

Avoid these souvenirs to prevent fines or imprisonment:

  • Elephant and rhino products
  • Turtle shells
  • “Lion” selfies
  • Mussels, corals, or queen conchs
  • Any type of cacti
  • Snake liquor
